Police in Fort Portal are investigating a break-in and theft at St. Adolf Catholic Church after unknown assailants forced their way into the church and stole several items. According to Vincent Twesige, the incident occurred in the early hours of Monday morning in Binanata Village, Kitumba Ward.
Twesige said preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects gained entry through a window using a blunt object before stealing an unspecified amount of money, two microphones, a mixer, a receiver, and a speaker. He added that the attackers also damaged several parts of the church during the break-in.
“Additional damage was reported on multiple church doors, including broken locks and shattered glass panels,” Twesige said. Police have since arrested a suspect identified as J. Musinguzi, a resident of the area, to assist with investigations.
According to Patrick Sanyu, the security guard on duty, he discovered the break-in at around 5:00 a.m. after noticing that the sacristy door had been forced open and its glass panels shattered. Sanyu said that upon inspecting the premises, he found several items missing, while others had been scattered both inside and outside the church building.
A piano keyboard and a woolen carpet were later recovered from a nearby bush, while another keyboard was found near the suspected point of entry used by the thieves. Police say investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and recover the remaining stolen property-URN.
