The Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) has terminated Sheikh Huzaima Magumba from his position as the District Kadhi of Bugweri Muslim District.

According to a letter dated 26th May 2025, signed by the Mufti of Uganda, Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubajje, the decision follows a formal complaint raised by concerned members of the Bugweri Muslim District regarding the authenticity of Sheikh Magumba’s academic qualifications—specifically the Thanawi certificate—submitted during his nomination and appointment.

The letter states that a thorough investigation was conducted by the UMSC, and it was established that the documents Sheikh Magumba submitted were forged.

This act constitutes a serious violation of the UMSC Constitution, particularly Article 19(3)(b), which outlines the required qualifications for the position of District Kadhi. “In light of the above findings, and by the constitutional mandate of UMSC, you are hereby terminated from your position as District Kadhi of Bugweri Muslim District with immediate effect,” the letter reads.

Sheikh Magumba has been ordered to vacate the office immediately and to return all UMSC property and equipment in his possession to the District Chairperson without delay.

In the letter, Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubajje emphasised that the decision was reached to uphold the integrity, credibility, and values of Uganda’s Muslim leadership and to preserve the trust of the Muslim community in Bugweri and the nation at large-URN.
