Breakthrough in Nsambya Heist: Boda Boda Riders Arrested Over UGX 45 Million

Two boda boda riders linked to a gang that carried out a UGX 45 million daylight robbery in Nsambya, a Kampala suburb, last month have been arrested. Their arrest follows the 6th of May 2026 incident in which the manager of Riverside Forex Bureau and his colleague were attacked after riding out of Bunga Trading Centre with USD 13,000 they intended to exchange for Uganda shillings in the city center.

After the exchange went smoothly, the two victims boarded a boda boda near the forex bureau to head back to Bunga. Unaware they were being followed, they were trailed by a gang of over 30 thugs on motorcycles who intercepted them just after the Clock Tower flyover, near the Nsambya traffic lights.

Footage captured by passing motorists and circulated on social media shows the gang assaulting the two victims in broad daylight before snatching their bag and speeding off.

The attack went uninterrupted despite the busy Clock Tower-Nsambya stretch, leaving the victims injured and shaken. They reported the robbery at Kabalagala Police Station, triggering a manhunt. On Friday, police made a breakthrough by arresting two suspects linked to the attack.

Assistant Superintendent of Police Luke Owoyesigyire identified the suspects as Yudah Kamoga, alias “Sparta”, and Arnold Kayabula, both boda boda riders. They were arrested after police caught them riding with concealed number plates. Officers also recovered a motorcycle, registration UMA 602KK, believed to be linked to the robbery, fitted with a fake plate reading UMA 655GK.

“The suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue to establish their roles and apprehend other accomplices. We remain committed to ensuring all those involved are arrested and brought to justice,” Owoyesigyire said.

The Nsambya daylight robbery is not an isolated incident. Kampala has kept seeing a growing wave of cash robberies carried out in broad daylight by gangs disguised as boda boda riders. Their method is targeted and coordinated. They trail people leaving banks or businesses with large sums of cash, then use speed, numbers, and brute force to overpower victims in full view.
