Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, the Presidential candidate for the National Unity Platform, on Friday evening stirred up Yumbe town with a mammoth crowd that lined up to welcome him after his rally in Koboko district.
Kyagulanyi, who arrived at 4:30 pm, first made a stopover at Lodonga Town Council and Kuru Town Council, where he engaged with residents before proceeding to Geya Playground in Geya Parish, Bijjo Sub-County, where he held a rally at around 5:25 pm. While addressing a mammoth crowd in Yumbe Town on Friday evening.
He pledged to purchase ambulances, construct more hospitals and schools, noting that many schools were built during the regimes of presidents Obote and Amin, which have become too few for the increasing population, while others need an overhaul.
Kyagulanyi also promised to create 10 million jobs for Ugandans, emphasising that employment would be based on merit rather than political appointments, and reassured supporters that backing his candidacy is legitimate, urging them not to be intimidated.
He also pledged commitment to reducing the burden of high taxes on citizens, paying compensation to the combatants, and fighting corruption, citing that approximately 10 trillion shillings are stolen from the government annually.
Meanwhile, security remained heavily deployed in Yumbe as more security forces were moved from Koboko. Bobi Wine will campaign in Obongi and Moyo on Saturday and conclude the West Nile campaign on Sunday in Adjumani District.
