Awali Sserwada, who was the National Resistance Movement (NRM) candidate for Wabulenga village in Northern Division, has withdrawn from the race just hours before the election.
Sserwada says he has chosen to support Swaibu Walubo, the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) candidate.
Sserwada says that he made this decision after his own campaign team assessed the ground and realized how Walubo had mass grassroots support.
Sserwada says that Walubo is a seasoned leader who has attracted genuine support across generations, and they are religiously attached to him despite his committed campaigns.
Sserwada further says that, for the sake of steering continuity within their community, allowing Walubo to win the race unopposed is the best decision for now.
On his part, Walubo has welcomed Sserwada’s decision, arguing that leadership at village level should be based on consensus rather than endless competitions.
Walubo says that he has been emotionally supporting his community through grief and joyful moments alike, which largely explains why the people prefer him.
Walubo, who prides in 20 years of leadership, says that he has been resolving family disputes without the involvement of police and courts of law, another attribute which has attracted his support across the board.
