James Mubiru, the Rubaga North KCCA Lord Councillor who is also very close to the Kyagulanyi family, says time has come to reclaim the Rubaga North MP Seat from Abubaker Kawalya who he says merely used the KCCA Speakership position to fluke the politics of NUP and got himself the flag for 2021.
Mubiru, who is the man Bobi Wine had initially considered for the Rubaga North MP Seat from the very onset of the People Power revolution, says that he regrets bowing out in 2021 for Kawalya who he thought was a serious fighter who would use the position to deepen the frontiers of the anti-Museveni struggle.
“We thought he was a fighter only to realise he wasn’t and just wanted to use our office as MP to get for himself a diplomatic passport and go globe-trotting. He has been found wanting on every parameter. In Rubaga, we have always produced fighters who used the office of MP to give Museveni sleepless nights. Remember Wasswa Lule, Beti Kamya at some point and later on Moses Kasibante. This one is so vague even his campaign manager or personal assistant doesn’t know what he stands for. And for us as children who have been born and raised in Rubaga North are hurting and can’t put up with that mediocrity of his anymore.”
Mubiru adds that: “This Kawalya man has been total disaster and big embarrassment to us who know what is at stake. He never talks in Parliament plenary or even Committee and even in the constituency he is never there to fight for the people. We want an MP who is outspoken and can lead our people to physically fight all these injustices around us because that’s the standard Rubaga North established since the days of CA. Time has come for Kawalya to find somewhere else to stand but not in Rubaga North. Even the party headquarters wants fighters not ambivalent MPs like he has turned out to be. He is a disgrace to the NUP party because he has put us to shame. In any case, he has no roots in Rubaga and we don’t even know where he comes from. We want an MP who appreciates the need to use the immunity that comes with being an MP and fight for our people as opposed to thinking that being an MP is an end in itself.”
Mubiru says that he is ready to offer himself and lead the Rubaga North front. “How can you be MP for Rubaga North of fighters and the Speaker of Parliament says bad things about Buganda and you do nothing yet even Bulange is in your constituency? He calls himself NUP yet his very people like Defiant Martin are the ones abusing our President Bobi Wine everyday on social media and you can’t even prevail and order them to stop? Enough is enough. Those people hijacked our struggle and have now stunted it. He thinks he has money but this time round those things aren’t going to work because, being people power, we are going to have people in party structures to determine who carries the NUP flag and I can assure you for the case of Rubaga North, its not going to be Kawalya anymore.”
Mubiru says he has paid a bigger price for the struggle than Kawalya can ever pay. He says he was locked up in prison for 8 months for the struggle yet Kawalya, who is supposed to be the commander leading people of Rubaga North, has never even been locked up in a Police cell for even one day. He also denied ever being paid by Kawalya to forfeit his right to ever stand against him in Rubaga.
He says “I just pulled out for him because he seemed to have a higher profile having been KCCA Speaker and we were unsure of how people would vote. We didn’t want infighting which Beti Kamya would exploit to deliver our Rubaga North to Gen Museveni. This is why I bowed out for Kawalya and I’m surprised his people can go around blackmailing me that I was given money.
