The Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Kasana-Luweero, the Rt. Rev. Lawrence Mukasa has attacked fraudsters and dishonest traders, saying business malpractice in all forms is unfair. He urges everyone to denounce business malpractice.

Delivering his homily during Mass at the Kasana-Luweero Diocesan 29th anniversary celebrations, Bishop Mukasa declared that at 29 years, the Diocese is fully mature and must serve with diligence and dignity.

He said it would be absurd for the faithful in a nearly three-decade-old diocese to behave like children in infancy. The Prelate urged Christians across the Diocese to take their responsibilities more seriously. He also criticized what he described as a world that has lost direction, citing cases of business malpractice in Kampala.

He said when they go to Kampala, they find street preachers and stampedes, with everyone busy pursuing personal gain.Bishop Mukasa said some are gamblers, while others sell fake herbs. He questioned how someone could sell a single clay-like herb and claim it cures multiple diseases, asking whether that is even possible.

He also called out dishonest street vendors who sell defective items. According to Bishop Mukasa, one may buy a watch from a street vendor only for it to stop working immediately after starting a vehicle, and the vendor cannot be traced thereafter.

It was against this backdrop that Bishop Mukasa called for fairness in service delivery, urging Christians in the Diocese to set a good example and help restore moral direction in society.Luganda Audio

After Mass, he directed Nakasongola Deanery to organize the 2027 Diocesan Day celebrations. This year’s event was animated by Nakaseke Deanery, while Kasana Deanery will be the last to host the Diocesan Day in 2028. The Bishop said that thereafter, he will give fresh directives on organizing the Diocesan anniversary.

At the same event, the Diocesan Head of Laity, Ronald Ssemakula, expressed concern that despite the Diocese being 29 years old and having more than 180 schools, many Catholic families are failing to take their children to school. He warned that this trend could negatively impact the next generation of Catholics in the area.

Rev. Fr. Cyril Kasigwa, the Diocesan Pastoral Coordinator, said the Diocese is experiencing rapid growth in faith. He noted that by the end of 2025, when the Diocese marked 28 years, it had 20 parishes. Within one year, 12 new parishes have been created, bringing the total to 32.

Msgr. Vincent De Paul Mukiibi, the Vicar General of the Diocese, expressed concern about the health of Christians. He cited a report from a health camp organized last week by the Buganda Kingdom in Bulemeezi County and hosted by the Diocese at Kasana St. Jude Primary School, indicated that at least 11,000 people were treated for ailments that threaten their reproductivity.
