Bad News for Kavule As Lord Councilor Moses Katabu Vows to Spoil Rubongoya’s Kampala Central MP Bid Come 2026

Moses Katabu formerly of DP has always been a key opposition mobiliser in Kampala Central which ironically remains an NRM stronghold each time elections come.

NRM is hard to defeat because Museveni’s candidates rig and get votes from Nakasero areas, Kololo and closed establishments like Nakasero state lodge, All Saints Church, Civic Center, Christ the King, Summit View barracks where thousands of soldiers, real and ghosts, are used to alter and silence voices of ordinary people who vote from parishes and wards which make lower Kampala.

These include wards parishes like Kisenyi, Kifumbira and Mengo. Katabu is strongest in Mengo parish where he was born and grew up in Sserwanga Village. Katabu, who has been a Councilor since 2001 when he was still a UYD, in 2021 joined NUP after DP became complicated under Mao.

He has all along been warming up and positioning himself to become the next MP candidate for NUP for Kampala Central which Museveni has been considering to split into two like they did for Nakawa on the eve of 2021.

However, Katabu’s dream was destroyed recently when Bobi Wine disregarded him and fronted his best friend David Rubongoya. The secretary general is already campaigning and has made it clear that he is the only non-NRM politician Museveni can allow to win and be declared for Kampala Central.

Katabu is so disappointed and might end up joining Mpuuga’s Democratic Alliance. He says he won’t bow out and is ready to stay in the race as an independent and his calculation is to win and hold on to Mengo and Kisenyi parishes in which case he effectively gets to lock out Rubongoya and eliminate his chances of ever prevailing against the NRM candidate who will most likely be Minister Minsa Kabanda, a super-rich lady who has made billions of money under the Kampala Metropolitan Affairs Ministry.
