The police in Masaka are investigating the death of a private security guard who allegedly shot himself in the chest. Joseph Nasasira, 27, an employee of Corporate Security Services Ltd, was deployed to guard the Masaka Recreation Grounds, which is under construction, when the incident occurred.

According to Twaha Kasirye, the Southern Regional Police Spokesperson, the motive behind Nasasira’s action remains unclear, but investigations are underway to determine the circumstances surrounding his death. Kasirye confirmed that the body had been taken to Masaka Regional Referral Hospital for a postmortem, and the firearm has been retained as an exhibit to aid in the ongoing investigations.

Kasirye also advised security guards to seek counseling or report personal problems to authorities for redress, rather than resorting to taking their own lives.

This incident comes barely two weeks after a similar case in which Mesearch Matte, a private security guard at Kampala University, shot himself dead. It is alleged that Matte, who was attached to Timecop Security Company Ltd, had longstanding family disputes that led him to take his own life-URN.
