Charles Tebandeke the NUP MP for Bbale county was at first hostile to party bosses at Kavule while praising Mpuuga.
But he quickly changed when he realised this was going to reduce his support. Voters demanded that he reconciles with Kyagulanyi or else forget about re-election.
Kavule tried to find a replacement and as they went around shopping to get one, Charles Tebandeke rang Joel Ssenyonyi saying he wanted to mend fences with Kyagulanyi.
Ssenyonyi quickly arranged for him to meet Kyagulanyi before whom he knelt and asked for forgiveness. The party leadership quickly accepted his apology because they were stuck too about Bbale county having failed to find a strong candidate to win for them there since Museveni and NRM still command significant support there.
It was realized that NRM was defeated in Bbale not because NUP was stronger as a party but because voters liked Tebandeke as a person regardless of party affiliation.
NUP hopes to get at least three MPs from Kayunga in 2026 who include Tebandeke, Patrick Nsanja for Ntenjeru north and Harriet Nakwedde for woman MP. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
