I.K. Musaazi, grandson of the national hero of the same name, has announced his intention to run for the position of Central Youth MP for the 2026-2031 term. Musaazi, who recently served as an independent Guild President at university, is seeking the NRM flag bearer position in the upcoming August elections. He is calling on all young Ugandans to support his campaign and stand by him during the 2026 elections.

Musaazi, a self-described “son of the soil” from Nakaseke District, says his political ambitions are rooted in his family’s values of respect, responsibility, and resilience.

He connects his political platform directly to his grandfather’s legacy, stating that while I.K. Musaazi fought for political independence from colonial rule, his own fight is for the “economic liberation, accountability and dignity for every Ugandan youth”.

“We may not be under colonial rule anymore, but many of our young people are still trapped by unemployment, underrepresentation and inequality,” Musaazi stated.

He emphasizes that his connection to his grandfather’s values is not symbolic but “very practical” and the “fuel” behind his campaign. Musaazi plans to carry forward his grandfather’s legacy by “modernizing the tools but keeping the values intact”. He aims to use digital platforms and social media to mobilize and empower young voices from the grassroots up, just as his grandfather did.

As a former Guild President, Musaazi highlighted his leadership style as “Inclusive, Purposeful, and Resilience”. He successfully ran as an independent candidate, overcoming challenges by building a grassroots movement driven by “personal connection, honesty and clarity of my vision”. His top priorities as Guild President included improving internet connectivity, enhancing student welfare, and fostering inclusivity among students. He is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science.

Musaazi’s campaign message is a call to action for young Ugandans. “The future belongs to the youth and the future is now,” he said, urging young people to engage in politics to make their voices heard. He believes that true leadership is a calling to serve others with courage and integrity.
