Joint security forces have recovered stolen livestock in Kaabong district.
It is reported that on Wednesday, unknown cattle rustlers raided the community kraal in Kalapata Town Council, stealing 11 cows and 4 donkeys.
In the aftermath, the forces conducted an operation in the Kamion sub-county along the border with Kenya, and engaged the armed warriors, leading to a fire exchange. Whereas no casualties were reported, the warriors were forced to abandon their stolen livestock and fled to the side of Kenya.
Mike Longole, the Mt Moroto police spokesperson, confirmed the incident, stating that the forces successfully recovered all the 11 cows and 4 donkeys which were raided after defeating warriors in crossfire.
Longole noted that the forces comprising UPDF and other security agencies worked tirelessly to track down the raided cattle. He added that the recovered cattle are currently being held at Kalapata joint security holding ground, where they will be handed over to their owner.
Longole attributed the successful operation to the commitment of the joint security forces to combating cattle rustling and ensuring the safety and security of communities in Karamoja as a whole.
“We are pleased with the successful recovery of the raided cattle and appreciate the efforts of the joint security forces. We will continue to work tirelessly to prevent cattle rustling and ensure the security of our communities” Longole said-URN.
