Police in Busoga East have arrested Derrick Kefa, a resident of Muterere town council, in Bugiri district, over the death of a one-year-old, Rehema Namudoola.
Kefa reportedly hit the toddler twice on the ground, causing her to die instantly.
Kefa later attempted to flee, however, residents handed him over to Bugiri central police station.
Salama Namulondo says that Kefa came to her shop on Wednesday and carried her baby like it was the norm for most clients. Namulondo, however, says that while preparing for Kefa a cold drink, she heard her baby cry.
On opening the door, Namulondo says that she watched in shock as Kefa continued to hit the toddler to the ground.
Stranded on her next course of action, Namulondo remembers to have seen well-wishers running to the aid of her baby, who was already lying lifeless on the ground.
Michael Kafayo, the Busoga East police Spokesperson, confirms the incident, adding that detectives have commenced recording statements from eyewitnesses.
Kafayo says that the suspect will be subjected to a mental check to ascertain his sanity before preferring any charges against him-URN. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
