Police in the Mt Moroto region have arrested four people, for mismanaging the Parish Development Model in the Nakapiripirit and Moroto districts.
This brings the total number of suspects arrested to eight in one week in the districts of Amudat, Nakapiripirit, and Moroto.
On Friday, Desmond Sagal, an intern deployed at CDO’s office, Maureen Pulkol, the town agent of Katanga ward in Nakapiripirit Town council, and Alfonse Oluket, the parish chiefs of Akokoro parish in Lemusui sub-county were arrested for mismanaging the PDM money.
Michael Longole, the Mt Moroto regional police spokesperson confirmed the arrest stating that Pulkol and Maureen were arrested after their file was submitted to Resident State Attorney and sanctioned.
In Moroto Municipality, Joyce Moru, aged 52 years, treasurer of PDM SACCO Moroto Boma North, resident of Kambizi cell, South Division, was arrested and remanded to Moroto Government Prison for theft of PDM Cash.
It is alleged that Moru duped an 84-year-old woman Teresa Ateko into applying for parish development model money. Moru accompanied Ateko to the MTN service centre in Moroto to register a sim card that was used for applying to benefit from the PDM money.
Moru kept the sim card in her phone and the national identity card belonging to Ateko as she waited for the money to be deposited.
When 1 million Shillings was deposited, Moru secretly withdrew all the money and returned the sim card and the ID with 100,000 shillings to Ateko.
Longole said that through their intelligence, they established that Ateko who was the real beneficiary of PDM money received only 100,000 shillings. He said that the suspect handed over the money to the victim without telling her the clear source of money.
