A total of 440 Catholic Christians has received the Sacrament of Confirmation, while 28 couples exchanged marriage vows during a religious ceremony at St. John Paul II Kyakabadiima Proposed Catholic Parish in Kyakabadiima Sub-county, Kagadi District.
The Mass, held on Thursday to commemorate the sainthood of John Paul II, was presided over by the Vicar General of Hoima Catholic Diocese, Msgr. Rev. Fr. Robert Mugisa, who represented the diocesan Bishop, Rt. Rev. Vincent Kirabo Amooti.
In his homily, Fr. Mugisa urged married couples to uphold love, mutual respect, trust and faithfulness, describing these values as essential pillars for building strong, stable and exemplary families. He encouraged husbands to demonstrate love, care and respect for their wives, while urging women to support and respect their husbands as they fulfil their family responsibilities.
The cleric expressed concern over conflicts in some families, warning that a lack of mutual respect and understanding could contribute to marital breakdowns and domestic violence.
Fr. Mugisa also called on Christians and the general public to promote peace in their communities through honesty, trustworthiness and faithfulness. He observed that dishonesty, particularly when driven by personal interests, undermines trust and contributes to suffering in society.
He reminded the congregation that maintaining peace is a shared responsibility that requires individuals to embrace truth and integrity in their daily interactions.
Meanwhile, the caretaker of Kyakabadiima Proposed Catholic Parish, Rev. Fr. Andrew Kaawha, commended Christians for their continued support towards church activities and urged them to strengthen their participation in income-generating projects.
Fr. Kaawha encouraged believers to invest in agricultural enterprises such as coffee and cocoa growing to improve their livelihoods and generate resources to support parish programmes.
Meanwhile, the commissioning of St. John Paul II Kyakabadiima Proposed Catholic Parish has been postponed to a later date. Rev. Fr. Kaawha explained that the Bishop of Hoima Catholic Diocese, Rt. Rev. Vincent Kirabo Amooti, was occupied with other official duties. The new date for the commissioning ceremony had not been announced by the time of publication.
Some of the couples who exchanged marriage vows expressed happiness at formalizing their unions before God and the church, pledging to follow the guidance provided by their religious leaders as they build their families-URN.
