The Bunyoro-Kitara Kingdom has urged the people of Tooro to be cautious about the future of the institution as they discuss the likely successor to Rukirabasaija Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV.
Eng. Fred Mugenyi Rucunya, the Okwiri (Chief Prince) of Bunyoro-Kitara and head of the royal Babiito clan, led a delegation to Fort Portal to mourn the late monarch.
Rucunya noted the importance of exercising restraint and wisdom in public discourse, warning that reckless comments, especially on social media, could threaten the unity of the kingdom.
He also called on the people of Batooro to unite and support the Omusuga, urging them to listen to his guidance during this transitional period.
Rucunya reaffirmed Bunyoro’s commitment to working closely with Tooro’s Babiito leaders to respect cultural traditions and ensure a peaceful and successful succession process.
The call comes in the wake of the passing of King Oyo, who died last Thursday in the United States, where he was undergoing medical treatment.
Tooro broke away from Bunyoro-Kitara in the 1880s, and Prince Kaboyo Olimi I, the eldest son of Omukama Nyamutukura Kyebambe III of Bunyoro, led this breakaway-URN. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
