Three people have been killed after a Canter truck lost control and rammed into a boda-boda stage along Kafumbe Mukasa Road in Kisenyi, Kampala. The crash occurred at about midday and involved a Canter truck, registration number UAX 513N, whose driver reportedly lost control and ploughed into boda-boda riders parked at the stage.

Two boda-boda riders died on the spot, while a pedestrian who was critically injured in the crash later succumbed to his injuries in hospital, bringing the death toll to three. Police spokesperson Michael Kananura said the truck driver fled the scene immediately after the crash but was later arrested and detained at Old Kampala Central Police Station as investigations continue.

The Kisenyi crash adds to a series of fatal crashes involving trucks reported across the country in recent weeks. On August 3, at least 14 people were killed at Kamunga Trading Centre in Lwera Swamp along the Kampala-Masaka Highway when a taxi, registration number UA 662AQ, collided head-on with a Sino truck, registration number UBS 040F, carrying sand.

Police said the truck driver was attempting to avoid humps at a construction site when he swerved into the opposite lane and pushed the taxi backwards for about 30 metres. In Napak District, five people were killed and several others injured after an overloaded lorry, registration number UNHCR 543U, carrying cattle and passengers overturned along the Moroto-Soroti Highway after a front tyre burst.

In Mubende, two people were killed and four children injured on August 14 when an Actros truck, registration number UBK 132F, lost control while descending at Kagavu in Kalonga Sub-county and overturned onto a Nissan Murano, registration number UBD 063R. In Mayuge, five people, including a family of four, were killed at Girigiri Village along the Musita-Namayingo Road when a sugarcane truck, registration number UAE 145H, reportedly failed to brake and crushed two motorcycles last month.

Traffic Police have attributed most road crashes to speeding, dangerous mechanical conditions, brake failure, tyre bursts, overloading and reckless overtaking. Police annual crime reports show that Uganda recorded 26,044 road crashes in 2025, up from 25,107 in 2024. Road fatalities have also continued to rise, from 4,534 deaths in 2022 to 5,383 in 2025, an average of about 15 people killed on the roads every day. Police say pedestrians and boda-boda riders account for the highest proportion of road crash victims-URN. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
