Police in Kasese are investigating the death of a 78-year-old woman who was found hanging in her home in Mumbuzi Cell, Nyamwamba Division. The deceased has been identified as Mbambu Susana, a peasant and resident of Mumbuzi Cell, whose body was discovered in her bedroom early Monday morning.
The incident was reported to police at about 6:21 am by her daughter, Mbambu Margo, who resides with her. According to police, the area chairperson of Mumbuzi Cell, Mbambu Annet Kule, was alerted by Thembo Expedito Mwirima, the daughter’s husband, who informed her about the incident.
ASP Elly Maate, the Rwenzori East Police spokesperson, said a police team visited the scene and documented the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death. Maate said the body was found hanging from a piece of cloth in a room that served both as a shop and bedroom.
The body was later conveyed to Kasese Municipal Health Centre mortuary for a postmortem examination. Police officials also addressed mourners and residents at the scene, urging members of the public experiencing distress to seek counselling and support from relatives, community leaders or professional service providers-URN.
