Joint security forces in the Mt. Moroto region have recovered 46 sheep stolen from Senior Commissioner of Police Wilson Otuna Omoding in Katakwi District. The animals, comprising 42 sheep and four lambs, were recovered in Nabwal Sub-county, Napak District, following intelligence-led operations by the security forces.
The recovery follows a theft case reported in Katakwi involving 46 sheep and three heads of cattle belonging to SCP Omoding of Magoro, Katakwi District. The recovered animals were handed back to the rightful owner in the presence of local leaders, led by the Napak District LCV Vice Chairperson. Mt. Moroto Regional Police and ASTU spokesperson Mike Longole confirmed the recovery and said the security forces were still pursuing the three stolen cattle.
Longole said suspects linked to the theft had declined to produce the missing cattle, prompting security forces to impound some of their animals. “To compel the suspects to produce the remaining three cattle, ten bulls belonging to the suspects have been impounded, waiting for them to produce the stolen cattle before they are released,” Longole said. He commended local leaders and communities for providing information that enabled the recovery.
“We appreciate the local leadership and community cooperation that led to this success,” Longole said. Longole warned livestock thieves to desist, saying security operations had been intensified to identify and arrest those involved in cattle theft. Livestock theft remains a security concern along the Nabilatuk, Napak and Katakwi corridors, with armed warriors from the three districts accused of conducting raids across neighbouring communities.
