Luwunga Village LC1 Chairman Muhammed Muwonge and another suspect, Abdalla Ssozi, are on remand over allegations of forcibly taking control of 311 acres of land in Mukono District and destroying property and crops valued at about Shs1 billion.
The two appeared before Mukono Magistrates Court on several counts related to land-related crimes and other offences and will remain on remand until August 26, 2026. According to the Anti-Corruption Unit of State House, which conducted the operation together with the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), the alleged offences occurred between October and November 2025 in Luwunga Village, Nama Sub-county, Mukono District.
The disputed land, comprised in Block 167, Plot 81, Kyaggwe, measures approximately 311 acres and is registered in the name of Stella Kiwanuka, administrator of the estate of the late Joseph Kiwanuka Musanze. The prosecution alleges that Ssozi presented himself as the owner of the land and, together with Muwonge, forged sale agreements that were issued to some of the victims.
The two are further accused of stealing property belonging to occupants of the land, including metallic water tanks and water-pumping machines, and damaging several houses. They allegedly uprooted and destroyed crops, including maize, cassava, sweet potatoes, sugar cane, tomatoes, banana plantations and eucalyptus trees, with the total value of the destroyed property estimated at Shs1 billion. Muwonge and Ssozi join Bonniface Kayongo and Hamuza Kiseka, who were earlier charged and remanded over similar land-related allegations-URN.
