Anthony Kushaba, the Ntungamo District Communications Officer has been laid to rest as mourners described him as a bold, dedicated and transformative public servant who made a lasting impact. During his burial on Sunday at his ancestral home in Rwentobo, Rwahi Town Council, Ntungamo District, Kushaba was commended for his courage, commitment to duty and willingness to take on challenges in both his professional and personal life.
Gerrard Nuwagaba, the Deputy Chief Administrative Officer, described Kushaba as a remarkably bold and dependable officer who distinguished himself through his work and other administrative responsibilities.
Nuwagaba said Kushaba played an important role in assisting retiring civil servants to process and access their pension benefits timelily.
He described the deceased as a reliable and committed colleague who maintained friendships across the community, and that many who interacted with him benefited from his dedication and efforts. Fidelis Kiiza, the Chief Administrative Officer, described Kushaba as a pillar of the district’s public service who consistently worked towards a common goal and contributed to initiatives aimed at improving service delivery.
He said Kushaba was on a team established to strengthen the fight against corruption in the district. He also credited him with helping to address challenges relating to the district payroll, supporting new payroll entrants to obtain supplier numbers necessary for accessing government services.
According to Kiiza, Kushaba further contributed to efforts to streamline systems that enabled members of the community to benefit from the Parish Development Model. Speaking on behalf of Kushaba’s friends, Eng. Prosper Butubuura described him as a loyal and dependable friend who valued relationships and remained committed to those close to him.
Kushaba’s father, Albany Mbabazi, described his son as a hardworking man and a person who made the most of his time on earth. Mbabazi said Kushaba lived a purposeful life and used his abilities to serve others and contribute positively to his community.
From the journalism fraternity, journalist Perez Rumanzi described Kushaba as a passionate media professional who mentored many journalists and remained deeply committed to the media industry.
Rumanzi said Kushaba’s contribution to journalism extended beyond his professional work, particularly through his efforts to guide and mentor young journalists. His wife, Emily Kushaba, remembered him as a humble and loving husband who served as a mentor, counsellor and caring partner to his family.
Naome Kabasharira, the Woman Member of Parliament for Ntungamo District, said that Kushaba was a committed professional journalist who used his pen, microphone, and notebook to contribute to the country’s development.
