In a recent meeting for the 18 NUP lord councillors caucus at KCCA, lord mayor Balimwezo pleaded with them to avoid making reckless and unresearched criticisms of the city’s executive director Sharifah Buzeki or any member of the technical wing.
He said NUP is a party of discipline, and he wants to be different from the former lord mayor Lukwago who used to hide behind rule of law to attack the technical wing and other Museveni appointees in Kampala.
He said that there is need for NUP to show that its different and not full of hooligans as haters put it. Balimwezo also reminded councillors that Kampala can’t be about populist fights and politicking all the time.
He reminded fellow NUPians that now must be time for working to change Kampala and deliver manifesto promises and for that to be achieved, the elected NUP leaders like himself must work well with the executive director Buzeki and other Museveni appointees at city hall.
The NUP lord councillors have been reflecting on this directive by their boss Balimwezo and some of them say heeding that directive might end up making them very unpopular with their voters.
In a related development, NRM’s 16 lord councillors have opened war on Balimwezo on how KCCA reps to Universities and other government institutions boards and governing councils have to be selected.
The NRM councilors have already written to the attorney general asking for his legal guidance on whether its right for the lord mayor to violate of the relevant laws by being the one to appoint councillors to represent KCCA.
They want the representatives to be elected by all councillors and not being appointed by the lord mayor-Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
