Two unidentified men have been killed and two other people injured in a road crash at Naluvule along the Kampala–Gulu Highway in Luwero District.
The fatal crash occurred at about 1:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 22, 2026, and involved three motor vehicles: a white Fuso truck, registration number UBA 879L; a red Sino truck, registration number UBJ 984L, which was loaded with sand; and a red Mercedes Actros truck, number CGO 6435AC/07.
The drivers of all three vehicles were yet to be identified. According to Sam Twineamazima, the Savannah Region Police spokesperson, preliminary investigations indicate that the Fuso which was travelling from Kampala towards Luwero, mounted the broken-down Mercedes Actros and fatally struck one of its occupants.
Twineamazima said the strong headlights from the oncoming Sino truck are also suspected to have contributed to the crash. He said the Sino truck driver reportedly swerved off the road to avoid a head-on collision, causing the truck to overturn.
Two unidentified male adults who were reportedly seated on top of the sand being transported by the Sino truck died at the scene, while two other passengers sustained injuries and were rushed to a nearby clinic for treatment.
Police were notified and a team visited the scene, documented the crash and drew a sketch plan as part of the ongoing investigations. The bodies of the deceased were taken to Luwero General Hospital mortuary for postmortem.
The Fuso truck was towed to Luwero Police Station, while the Sino truck and the Mercedes Actros remained at the scene pending the arrival of heavier towing equipment from Kampala. Police said investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash are ongoing-URN. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
