
Six new priests and thirteen deacons have this Saturday been ordained at Our lady of Lourdes Cujumbura in Hoima city. Presiding over the ordination ceremony, Archbishop Lambert Bainomugisha of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Mbarara appealed to the new priests and deacons to go and preach the gospel of the Lord to Christians, tasking them to be faithful, committed, trustworthy, and above all exhibit good discipline.
Those ordained into priesthood are Fr.Joseph Ahuniriza, Fr.Sebastian Asiimwe, Fr.Ronald Barongo, Fr. Paul Byaruhanga, Fr. Charles Mwebaze and Fr. Gregory Tumuhaise.
The deacons are George William Agonza, Micheal Asiimwe, Derrick Rogers Businge, Vincent Mugisa, John Muhumuza, Denis Mugenyi and Gilbert Muhumuza. Others are Pascal Owaruhanga, Julius Sunday, Robert Ssebaka, Geofrey Ssesanga, Emmanuel Sserubega and Innocent Zikasagisa.
Archbishop Bainomiugisha noted that the new priests have got a crucial role to play and that they should be ready to endure suffering.
He advised the priests and the deacons to uphold their integrity before the public and seek God’s guidance as they execute their mission of spreading the gospel of the lord.
Bainomugisha encouraged them to be ministers of holy sacraments, teachers of faith and above all, they should be spiritual leaders as they preach the gospel of Christ.
Bainomugisha called on Christians in the Diocese to pray for the ordained priests and deacons so that they can execute the mission that they have been called for amicably.
Archbishop Bainomugisha appealed to the newly ordained to always consider carrying their pastoral instruments like the Bible, Crucifix, Rosary, Holy Oils, among others, saying it will help them perform Sacraments and Offer holy Mass at any time of need.
Bainomugisha appealed to the priests and deacons to abide by the Catholic Church norms and principles, cautioning them to strictly respect and uphold the vows they have taken.
He also appealed to them to be obedient to their Bishop and successors while executing God’s work. Grace Mary Mugasa, the state minister for Bunyoro Affairs on behalf of government, appealed to Christians to offer unreserved support for the welfare of the priests and also pray for them to perform their duties diligently.
The ordination ceremony attracted hundreds of Christians from various dioceses in Uganda. It was in July 2024 when 11 priests and nine deacons were ordained at Our lady of Lourdes cathedral Bujumbura in Hoima city. Today’s cohort auguments the number of priests in the archdiocese-URN.
