There is poverty at the heart of national unity platform party to the extent that secretary general Rubongoya can’t even facilitate work to be undertaken by heads of departments.

The party now has 48 MPs each of whom pays only 1m per month. This becomes 48m a month and 576m in the 12 months which is a whole year. Each of the MPs has signed up ordering the accounts department of parliament to cut off 1m per month though some MPs are unhappy.

They say that their party is exploiting them a lot because other parties are charging much less-and some of them have election petitions. NRM is charging 250,000 per MP per month.

Of this, 50k goes to the office of government chief whip to run the caucus activities and 200,000 is for Kyadondo to run party headquarters.

In one month the government chief whip Aceng Ruth Jane will be getting 18.6m from all the 372 MPs NRM has and in a whole year of 12 months, it comes to 223.2m. Kyadondo gets 74.4m per month and 888m for the whole year.

FDC has left its 9 MPs to give what they can but in the past it was 500,000 per MP. Two of FDC’s 9 are facing election petitions and may lose their seats and the party doesn’t want to stress them.

In PFF which has two MPs, there is no requirement for them to give any money. In UPC its the same thing.

The party which has 12 MPs, hasn’t asked for any monthly pay as yet. DP has 6 MPs from whom its hard to get such monthly contributions. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com.
