he National Resistance Movement (NRM) has secured all Ward Chairperson positions in Mbarara City. Mbarara City has 23 wards spread across its two administrative divisions: Mbarara City North and Mbarara City South. In Mbarara City South Division, nine of the 10 Ward Chairperson positions were won unopposed. Similarly, in Mbarara City North Division, 12 of the 13 positions were declared unopposed.

Voting was only conducted in two wards, Biharwe West in Mbarara City North Division and Rwakishakizi Ward in Mbarara City South Division. In Biharwe West, NRM candidate Johnson Rushegyera Mugisha was elected after polling 39 votes, defeating independent candidate Abdu Ssegawa, who garnered 27 votes.

In Rwakishakizi Ward, NRM’s Wilber Twesigye emerged victorious with 77 votes, beating Francis Kahangwa, who secured 50 votes.

Following his election, Rushegyera pledged to strengthen collaboration with Local Council I (LC I) chairpersons to enhance security across Biharwe West. He also promised to ensure that every household benefits from government programmes.

Twesigye said his priority would be to drive household economic transformation by effectively implementing government programmes within Rwakishakizi Ward. Mbarara City Electoral Administrator Violet Atuhurra said the elections in the two wards were conducted peacefully, with no incidents of violence reported-URN.
