Preliminary information indicates that the man was allegedly lynched in a cassava plantation before his body was dragged through a fence for about 20 metres into a nearby farm. Police suspect the deceased may have been attempting to steal when he was attacked. However, the circumstances surrounding his death remain under investigation.
Elly Maate, the Rwenzori East Police spokesperson, said officers responded to the scene, examined the area and deployed a sniffer dog to track the suspected perpetrators. However, the dog reportedly lost the trail after covering some distance. No identification documents were found on the deceased, making it difficult for police to establish his identity.
The body was taken to Kasese Municipality Health Centre III mortuary for a postmortem examination. Police have appealed to anyone with information that could help identify the deceased or establish the circumstances surrounding his death to come forward. They also urged members of the public to desist from violence and other acts of lawlessness and instead report suspected criminal activity to the authorities-URN.
