Kagadi United FC has lost its appeal against sanctions imposed following the abandonment of a Kitara Regional League match against Booma FC, with the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) Appeals Committee upholding the disciplinary ruling in its entirety.
In a ruling delivered by the FUFA Appeals Committee, chaired by Nyonyintono Asuman, the committee found no basis to overturn the decision of the Kitara Regional Disciplinary Panel, which held Kagadi United FC responsible for crowd trouble that led to the abandonment of the match on April 26, 2026. The Appeals Committee confirmed all sanctions imposed against the club, including forfeiture of the match and a suspended deduction of two points and two goals, which will remain in force until the end of the 2025/2026 season.
The match, played at Kahunde Playground in Kahunde Sub-county, Kagadi District, was abandoned in the 56th minute shortly after Booma FC scored a goal. The incident triggered protests and violence that forced match officials to halt the game and leave the field. Kagadi United FC had challenged the disciplinary panel’s decision, arguing that it had deployed adequate security, including 16 police officers, and that the disturbances were allegedly caused by individuals associated with Booma FC.
The club also questioned the reliance placed on the referee’s report and sought a replay of the match. However, the Appeals Committee ruled that the club failed to provide sufficient evidence to overturn the findings of the disciplinary panel. The committee noted that under FUFA Competition Rules, the home team bears responsibility for maintaining order and security before, during, and after matches. It further emphasized that clubs are accountable for the conduct of their supporters regardless of whether negligence can be proven.
According to the ruling, the referee’s report indicated that supporters of Kagadi United FC protested against the awarding of Booma FC’s goal, causing disturbances that created an unsafe environment and prevented the continuation of the match. The Appeals Committee also found that video evidence presented by Kagadi United FC was inconclusive and insufficient to disprove the referee’s account of events. It further dismissed claims that individuals described as “bouncers” linked to Booma FC were responsible for the abandonment of the match, citing a lack of supporting evidence.
The committee concluded that the Kitara Regional Disciplinary Panel had correctly applied the relevant regulations in finding Kagadi United FC liable for the abandonment of the fixture. The ruling brings to an end the dispute arising from the abandoned match and leaves the disciplinary panel’s decision fully intact-URN.
