The community of Kakori village in Kabarwa Sub County, Bukedea District, is grappling with the tragic news of a teenager taking her own life following a family feud.

‎The 15-year-old girl, identified as Mary Imongot, a primary six pupil at Kakori Primary School, was found hanging from a mango tree by community members early in the morning.‎‎

‎According to relatives, the distressing events began on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, when Imongot left home for the weekly market without her mother, Mary Ikiding’s consent and returned home late in the evening, raising concerns. ‎‎

‎At around 7 Pm, Ikiding found her daughter in the company of boys standing by the roadside. ‎‎‎Concerned for her daughter’s safety, Ikiding took Imongot home to discipline her.

After the disciplinary measures, it was reported that Imongot appeared to be in good spirits and joined her family for supper around 9 PM.‎‎ After supper, she retired to their grass-thatched hut where she shared a room with her younger sister.‎‎‎‎

However, it is alleged that Imongot managed to leave her sister’s side during the night and sneaked outside. She is thought to have taken a rope and hanged herself from the mango tree outside their home.

“When we woke up around 6 AM, we found Imongot hanging on the mango tree. Upon closer inspection, we saw that she had tied a handkerchief around her face, covering her eyes,” a relative recounted.‎‎‎

‎Ben Angura, the LCIII chairperson of Kabarwa Sub County, noted that upon learning of the tragedy, he rushed to the scene to prevent anyone from disturbing the site. “When I arrived, I instructed everyone not to touch anything until the police arrives. In such incidents, it is the police’s responsibility to untie the body and investigate the circumstances surrounding the death,” Angura stated.‎‎‎

‎By 8:30 AM, the body remained hanging as the community anxiously awaited the arrival of the police. ‎‎Angura continued to keep the scene secure, stating, “I have informed the police, and we are expecting them to arrive at any moment to carry out their investigation.”‎‎ ‎As of now, the police are yet to release an official report regarding the circumstances of Imongot’s death-URN.
