Busia Flags Off 59 Kid Athletes For National Competitions

A total of 59 athletes selected from 117 primary schools after zonal competition in Busia district have been flagged off for the national kids athletics competitions.

The Kids athletics is designed for children aged 3 to 12 years by ministry of education and sports with the aim of promoting physical activities like running,  jumping and throwing among others, that is implemented under by Uganda Athletics Federation in schools to identify talent.

This year’s national Kids athletics competition that will gather participants from different primary schools across the country at Rock High School in Tororo Municipality, is slated to kick-start on Monday next week for a period of ten (10) days.

Julius Ochieng,  the chairperson Busia district games and sports association, said while flagging off the participants on Friday morning at Dabani Girls Primary School, that  they managed to select the best 59 participants from the 117 primary schools in the area, being the cream that they want to represent the district in the national athletics.

Menya JJ Kennedy,  the Busia district inspector of schools urged the participants to get determined and represent the district by observing discipline.

He advised the participants to be vigilant and their care takers to ensure their safety.

James Etyang, one of the trainers said that they managed to select all categories including those who will participate in the games of disabled.

Auma Janet Mary, another trainer, said that they are ready and participants shall do all the required to be the best.

David Bwire, chairperson of Busia district headteacher’s association, said all schools have been able to participate in the zonal game and now these participants are the best cream.

Henry Egesa, the head coach said that they have been in Dabani Girls to train the participants thoroughly and the will shall leave Busia to Tororo on Sunday.

By the time of filling the story, the participants were still in preparation at Dabani Girls primary school that has been their center of training.
