Police in Kampala have arrested a 39-year-old man following a tragic incident in which four children lost their lives at a daycare centre in Ggaba.

According to a statement by the Uganda Police Force, officers responded to a distress call at around 11:00am on Thursday, April 2, 2026, reporting an individual allegedly attacking children at Ggaba Early Childhood Development Program in Makindye Division.

Responding officers swiftly intervened and arrested the suspect at the scene, identified as Okello Christopher Onyum.

Preliminary findings confirmed the deaths of four minors, all pupils at the daycare facility. The victims were identified as Eteku Gideon (2), Kaise Alungat (2), Ignatius Sserwange (3), and Ryan Odeke (2).

Police said the suspect remains in custody and is currently undergoing interrogation as investigations continue to establish the motive and circumstances surrounding the incident.

The Uganda Police Force extended condolences to the affected families and assured the public that efforts are underway to ensure justice for the victims. Further updates are expected as investigations progress.
