The joint security forces are investigating the death of Private Najibu Mukama, whose body was found hanging in his room at Rengen Army Barracks, Rengen Sub-county. It is alleged that on February 8, 2026, at around 5 pm, PTE Mukama, attached to the 43rd Battalion, was discovered hanging inside his grass-thatched house within the barracks.
The incident was reported by the Commanding Officer of the 43rd Battalion, Maj. Isaac Max Mungoni, to Jukius Adoa, Officer in charge of Operations, who, in turn, alerted the Criminal Investigations Officer of Kotido district. A team of police officers, led by Gilbert Ruhakana of the Homicide Desk, together with Oc Operations Julius Adoa and the Scene of Crime Officer-SOCO visited the scene.
According to Mike Longole, Mt. Moroto Regional Police spokesperson, the officer was found hanging from a green bag belt. Preliminary investigations suggest that he had a history of mental illness and had previously walked to Kaabong, where he was arrested and brought back.”The scene was examined and duly documented by the SOCO and a team of detectives,” Longole said. He added that the body has been conveyed to the 3rd Division Headquarters in Moroto for postmortem examination and further management. The police are yet to establish the circumstances that led to the officer’s death.
