The Police in West Nile have warned the residents of Yumbe district against acts of Religious Extremism.

The warning was issued during a meeting chaired by the Regional Police Commander, Senior Superintendent of Police Joseph Mwesige, at Takwa Mosque on Friday.

The meeting was held in connection with the recent clashes caused by some youth who caused havoc, purportedly protesting about the sale of por in Yumbe. The incident has been described as part of the issue of religious extremism within the Yumbe community.

Mwesige Joseph emphasized that Islam stands for unity, peace, and development, and should never be associated with violence or destruction.

He called on the community members to distinguish between the true teachings of Islam and criminal acts committed in its name.

Mwesige urged parties within the region and district to promote dialogue and understanding, rather than inciting youth or community unrest.
