Police in Kiboga District have arrested a casual labourer on allegations of murdering his employer over an unpaid debt before reportedly dragging the victim’s widow to the Local Council One chairperson’s home to demand payment.

The incident occurred on Thursday, August 6, at Kyomya B village in  Kyomya Sub-county, Kiboga District. The deceased has been identified as Accram Golooba, 22, who was in his garden with his wife, Gloria Naggawa, preparing logs for charcoal burning when the attack happened.

According to Wamala Regional Police spokesperson Lameck Kigozi, the suspect, identified as Fabrice

Nahomurembe, a Burundian national working as a casual labourer, allegedly confronted his employer demanding payment of money he claimed was owed to him.

Kigozi said that when Golooba allegedly failed to pay, Nahomurembe reportedly drew a panga and attacked him, inflicting a deep cut to the neck. The victim collapsed and bled to death at the scene.

“The suspect later grabbed the widow and dragged her to the LC I chairperson’s home while continuing to demand the money,” Kigozi said.

The LC I chairperson of Kyomya B Village, Sulaiman Muwonge, immediately reported the incident to Kyomya Sub-county Police Station, which informed Bukomero Police Station. A team of detectives was dispatched to the scene to investigate.

Investigators found Golooba’s body lying in a pool of blood approximately 15 metres from the primary scene. A panga suspected to have been used in the attack, bearing what appeared to be dried blood stains, was recovered as evidence.

Police launched a manhunt for the suspect, who was later arrested and is currently being detained at Bukomero Police Station as investigations into the alleged murder continue.

Kigozi urged residents to exercise caution when hiring casual labourers and to verify their backgrounds where possible as part of broader community safety measures to avoid such incidents-URN. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
