The youth in West Nile are calling for the establishment of an additional Zonal Industrial Skilling Hub in the region to provide more opportunities for skill acquisition and alleviate the burden on existing hubs.
West Nile currently has two hubs located in Zombo and Adjumani Districts, accommodating youth from all 13 districts and municipalities of the region.
Arua City Youth Chairperson, Magezi Gift, noted that having an additional hub in the greater Arua would help to open opportunities for more youths to benefit.
In its 5th cohort, the hub in Zombo has so far passed out 951 youths, drawing 20 youths from districts which limit many out. While in Adjumani, 659 youths have so far been trained as of last year.
Anwangkan Philip Oryem, the Zonal Hub Manager in Zombo, acknowledged that many youths are not able to get the opportunity, as they can only take 20 youths. But he echoed that having an additional hub would be a good solution to address the challenge.
However, the Chief Executive Officer at West Nile Regional Civil Society Network (WECISNET), Feni Twaib, noted that the hubs are overwhelmed by participants, calling for an additional hub in the region.
The Zonal Industrial Skilling Hubs are part of the presidential initiative on skilling youth, aged 18 to 35, to address high youth unemployment and school dropout rates in the country among youth.
