Police in West Nile are investigating the death of three people in Arua and Adjumani districts.
Two of the deceased were murdered in Arua district, while the other, a poling constable recruit, reportedly collapsed and died during physical exercise in Adjumani district on Friday.
In one of the incidents in Arua district, a woman identified as Lucy Andezu Charles, 66 years, resident of Ringili Parish, Vurra Sub County. He was reportedly murdered by a mob over witchcraft allegations.
According to a report from the police, Sunday Albert, a youth in the same village, fell sick and was admitted to Arua hospital, but later got discharged. On discharge, the sickness worsened, and he was taken to Kuluva Hospital, where he died.
However, the relatives of Albert Sunday, who are neighbours to the deceased, Lucy Andezu Charles, suspected her of having bewitched their son.
On 06th November 2025 at night, the home of the deceased was attacked, and she was murdered outside her house, and the window glass of her house was damaged.
“The dead body of the deceased was found outside her house, where she was murdered, lying in a spine position, half naked, and next to a dead cat. Clubs and sticks used to murder the deceased and to damage the window glasses were found next to the deceased and exhibited as inquiries continue into the matter,” Angucia said, the Police Community Liaison Officer (CLO).
Meanwhile, in another incident, Fred Asiku, a male adult aged 39, resident of Adravu village, Arua district, was assaulted to death by an LC and his accomplices after allegedly arresting Asiku with three goats he had stolen from his neighbour.
It’s alleged that the deceased one Asiku Fred, stole three goats from his neighbours and was seen at the trading center roasting meat (muchomo).
The chairman of Adravu village, his vice, and others reportedly proceeded to the home of the deceased and allegedly instructed him to be caned six strokes as a way of disciplining him in front of his house, until he became unconscious and died later.
After making a report at Vurra- Police station on 06/11/2025, a case file of murder by assault was registered vide SD reference 14/06/11/2025.
Police visited, examined, and documented the scene of murder, recorded statements from eye witnesses, retrieved the body of the deceased, and took it to Arua hospital mortuary for postmortem.
Suspects are still at large, but efforts are being made to have them arrested. The deceased allegedly stole three goats, one belonging to Ketty and two to Bako, all his neighbours in the village.
Eyewitnesses claim that the deceased allegedly confessed to having stolen the goats before dying.
Josephine Angucia, the police spokesperson for West Nile, confirmed the two incidents of murder and said the suspects are at large, but the police have launched a hunt for them as further investigations continue.
Meanwhile, in Adjumani district, the sudden death of a Poling Constable recruit during a physical exercise has prompted the police to launch investigations.
The deceased, identified as Solomon Obudra, 34 years from Dzaipi Sub County, Adjumani district,t reportedly collapsed and died immediately as he was being rushed to Adjumani hospital after completing a marathon.
The brother of the deceased, Vincent Moini Alaru, who also participated in the recruitment, tried to assist him,m but Obudra passed on.
Collins Asea, the Police Spokesperson for North West Nile, confirmed the incident and said a death investigation file has been opened to determine the circumstances surrounding the death of the recruit.
“The body of Solomon was later transferred to Adjumani general hospital morgue for postmortem as further investigations continue,” Asea said.
