Leaders in West Nile have urged government to fulfil development projects the late General Moses solicited for, as a measure to uphold his legacy for generations to come.
Born in 1939, General Moses Ali, the current MP for Adjumani East Constituency and Second Deputy Prime Minister, died on Saturday last week at Nakasero Hospital after a period of illness. The government has accorded him a state funeral in recognition of his decades of service to Uganda.
Now, ahead of his burial in Adjumani district on Thursday, leaders have identified key development projects like construction of Laropi bridge across river Nile between Adjumani and Moyo, completing the Arua Airport and naming it after General Moses Ali, building a Library in his memory, and paying all the former Uganda National Rescue Front combatants their packages among other requests.
Richard Andama, the Executive Director West Nile Compensation Advocacy –WE-CAN said government should step in and fulfil some key projects like completing compensation for all the former fighters under General Moses Ali as agreed in the peace accord.
Similarly, Twaib Feni the Executive Director West Nile Civil Society Network-WECISNet said the best way the legacy of this son of West Nile can be remembered is by government constructing the Laropi bridge as well as an educational or skilling center in the region in his memory.
Meanwhile Fadhil Lemeriga, the Prime Minister of Aringa Kingdom said General Moses Ali’s rich and fundamental legacy can be upheld if the government takes deliberate steps to fulfil demands of the people of Adjumani, Madi and West Nile in areas of establishing physical structures in his memory. Described as the ‘Cock of Madi’ and ‘Lion of West Nile’, General Moses Ali has been a player in the politics of Uganda for over five decades until his death on Saturday 18th July 2026-URN.
