The Water and Environment Ministry has handed over a solar-powered water supply project for Kyamusisi and Kiryokya in Kalangaalo Sub-county. While handing over the project, Ministry Engineer David Bateganya thanked the contractor for the good work done and for completing the project within the agreed time.

He further appreciated the Government of India for its cooperation with the Government of Uganda, noting that the funds for the project were secured through the EXIM Bank of India. Engineer Bateganya said the project is worth 3.4 billion shillings and will serve over 20,000 residents across 15 villages in two parishes.

He added that the project will be managed by the residents and explained that the initial taps installed are sample points, with more tap stands to be added.

Assistant Resident District Commissioner for Mityana District, Peter Kimera, thanked the government and urged residents to take responsibility for safeguarding the equipment to prevent theft.

Deputy Chief Administrative Officer for Mityana District, Jack Byaruhanga, thanked the government for sending funds to local governments to implement such projects. He also commended the Ministry of Water for extending water infrastructure to Mityana District. Byaruhanga asked the contractor to consider extending water to more areas in need.

The Mityana District Secretary for Health and Education, Mambo Sulait Ssengendo, who represented the District Chairperson, thanked the government for the initiative. He noted that Kalangaalo Sub-county has 11 parishes, some of which still lack access to safe water, and requested additional support.
