Untold Story: How Kadaga Fell out with MP Maurice Kibalya
Share on FacebookShare on X

By KT Reporter

Former Makerere guild president Henry Maurice Kibalya was always a blue-eyed boy  for Rebecca Kadaga.

She even helped him to become Bugabula south MP in 2016 the way she helped Bugabula north’s John Teira to become MP in 2021, after she fellout with Moses Kizige.

When she was still the speaker, Kibalya always defended Kadaga to the extent that he one time took on Museven after he criticized her in a public speech.

Kibalya led other MPs at a press conference in Kampala where they accused Museven of undermining the Kyabazinga and the entire Busoga kingdom simply because he criticized Kadaga.

Even for the speakership race of May 2021 which she lost to Oulanyah, Kibalya and Asuman Basalirwa were the chief campaigners for Kadaga.

But when she lost, Kibalya gradually shifted loyalty and this escalated when Oulanyah died and his deputy Anita Among became speaker.

Anita Among aggresively reached out to all Kadaga allies especially in Busoga where she is married to Moses Magogo of Buyende. She declared herself Mama Busoga and needed allies to amplify that messaging.

Kibalya became easy prey because he was choking on campaign loans which he took out in 2020 thinking that Kadaga would remain speaker and pay them off for him.

After losing the job, Kadaga lived a changed reality and was unable to bail out Kibalya.

This made Kibalya desperate and he looked for money while cursing Kadaga for not helping him.

He deceptively claimed that Kadaga had encouraged him to borrow while promising to help on repayment regardless of whether she remains speaker or not.

In one of the meetings, Kibalya was tasked for proof that Kadaga ever made out such representation to him in relation to the very expensive loans he took out.

He was unable to produce any proof and revenged by becoming a diehard supporter of Anita Among in the hope that doing such a thing would hurt Kadaga.

Instead, his trechery angered many people in Busoga and more so Kamuli where Kadaga remains a political king maker.

Former minister Asuman Kiyingi and others are already taking advantage if this fallout with Kadaga to demonize Kibalya among Kadaga diehard supporters in Bugabula south. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
