Ikwera Negri School for the Disabled in Kwania District has received a new classroom block worth 55 million shillings, commissioned under a community-driven development initiative led by parents and the Catholic Church.

The facility, located in Aduku Town Council, includes two classrooms, an office, and 31 desks, and was officially handed over to the school community on Wednesday by Father Rogers Okello, the Parish Priest of Aduku Catholic Parish, on behalf of the Catholic Foundation Body.

The construction was funded through contributions from parents under the PTA Development Fund as part of a locally organised effort to improve learning infrastructure. Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Father Okello praised the PTA leadership for prioritising education development, noting that a conducive environment is essential for effective learning.

I commend parents for uniting to uplift the education standard of this school. I equally recognise the contributions of the education department of Kwania. May God reward you. The head teacher, Ajwang Lydia Ojuk, said the project was initiated following a parents’ resolution in a meeting held on February 20, 2025, aimed at expanding classroom space to address overcrowding.

She said the new block will ease congestion and reduce pressure on learners who previously shared limited classroom space. Samfan Thomas Omara, the PTA Chairperson, said the construction forms part of a three-year strategic development plan to improve school infrastructure. He noted that the project cost about 55 million shillings.

Aduku Town Council LC3 Chairperson, Denis Aweri, commended the PTA for spearheading the development and pledged support toward improving school performance, including the provision of desks and motivation for both learners and teachers.

Kwania District Education Officer, Andrew Omunu, said the initiative aligns with the Ministry of Education and Sports guidelines, encouraging community participation in infrastructure development to complement government efforts. He praised the school leadership and PTA for taking the initiative in improving learning conditions.

Translation:Within a period of six years of Kwania’s inception, this is the first school to unveil a project within two years. This is in line with the Ministry of Education guidelines that allow parents to hold meetings and make resolutions geared towards developing schools. I thank management and the PTA for this initiative.
