Uganda’s U-17 Men’s National Team, the Cubs, boosted their preparations for the forthcoming TotalEnergies U-17 Africa Cup of Nations with a 3-1 victory over Mozambique in a friendly match played on Tuesday in Casablanca, Morocco.
The Cubs secured the win through a first-half strike from Brian Olwo before Arafat Ibanda netted a second-half brace to complete a comfortable performance at the Annexe Terrain Mohammed V. The match forms part of Uganda’s build-up for the TotalEnergies U-17 AFCON tournament scheduled to kick off on May 13, 2026, in Morocco.
Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) Principal Communications Officer Ahmed Hussein says the technical team is steadily shaping the squad through the international friendlies. He explains that the matches are helping the coaches assess player combinations and improve match fitness ahead of the continental competition.
Hussein describes the victory over Mozambique as a morale booster for the young side as preparations intensify. “The boys are responding well to training, and matches like these are crucial in building confidence and cohesion ahead of a competitive tournament,” he said.
Uganda will next face Mali in another friendly match on Saturday as the team concludes its preparations for the tournament. At the U-17 AFCON finals, Uganda has been drawn in Group B alongside Ivory Coast, Cameroon, and DR Congo-URN. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
