Joint Security Forces have arrested two suspected Karamojong warriors and recovered two guns in Karenga district.
The first gun, an SMG rifle No: 56-1 with 03 live rounds of ammunition, was recovered from Lomeritum Lobwol Simon Peter, a 30-year-old resident of Lokorio village. The gun was recovered after the suspect led the security forces to his house, where he had hidden the gun.
Another gun, an SMG, was handed over to the security forces by the wife of Lokuda Gabriel, a 70-year-old resident of Komem Village. The suspect was arrested on May 4 and is currently in custody.
Mike Longole, the Mt Moroto Regional Police Spokesperson, confirmed that incident, stating that they recovered two guns and the suspects are in custody.
Longole said that the operations were part of the ongoing effort to crack down on illegal guns used for destabilising the region.
Longole noted that the recovery of the guns is a testament to the effectiveness of the joint security forces. He said that the security agencies remain committed to maintaining peace and security in the region.
Longole urged the warriors who are still in possession of illegal firearms to take advantage of the Amnesty window and surrender their weapons rather than waiting for forceful disarmament.
“We urge the community to remain on high alert and to continue cooperating with our forces, report any case of illegal firearm in the community” Longole appealed-URN. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
