Two suspects are in custody at Kakumiro Central police station for allegedly murdering a couple. The suspects have been identified as Bukenya Arikanjelo 47, and Lawrence Asaba, 30.
The suspects are accused of murdering Pasitol Kamago, 69, and his wife, Maria Nyangoma, 40, both residents of Nkooko sub-county in Kakumiro. The incident on August 4, 2025.
It is alleged that the suspects connived and raided the couple’s home and fatally hacked them using machetes. The victims were severely hacked on the head, hands, neck and back.
Though residents heard the duo screaming for help and rushed, they discovered the couple lying dead in a pool of blood in their compound, while the assailants had fled.
Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson, says they pursued the suspects and arrested them on Thursday.
He says murder charges have already been preferred against the suspects who are currently being detained at the Kakumiro Central police station, adding that once investigations are through, they will be arraigned before the court to be charged accordingly.
