Two suspects are under detention at Hoima City Central police station for allegedly killing a businessman. The suspects, whose particulars have been concealed for fear of jeopardizing investigations, along with others still at large, are accused of killing Joshua Barongo, 30, a businessman in Hoima City.
They reportedly committed the offense on June 21, 2026.
The suspects are said to have raided the deceased’s business premises and strangled him to death before making off with over 30 million shillings that he had kept in his hardware shop.
Neighbors became suspicious when they did not see him open his hardware shop as he used to, while all his known mobile telephone numbers were switched off. The neighbors alerted area leaders and the police.
With authorization from the police, they broke into the deceased’s shop only to discover his lifeless body inside his shop. His hands, and his legs, and mouth were reportedly tied with a piece of cloth.
The deceased had bruises on the neck, an indication that he could have been strangled.
Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson, says that after the brutal murder of the businessman, the flying squad detectives have been deployed on the ground to track down the suspects. He has confirmed the arrests of the two suspects, adding that the hunt for their accomplices is ongoing.
According to Hakiza, the suspects who are currently detained at the Hoima City Central police station are cooperating well with detectives, adding that once investigations are through, they will be arraigned before the court to be charged accordingly. He has called for calm among area residents, saying the matter is under investigation and that soon justice will prevail-URN.
