A security guard has been shot dead in Namugongo. The incident happened on Thursday when two armed thugs with guns and machetes attacked A&B Supermarket near the Namugongo Catholic Shrine.
According to supermarket owner Brian Kayongo, the attackers ambushed him and his workers, held them at gunpoint, seized the money from the counter, and then fled.
“It was over in about 2 minutes. They held us at gunpoint, took all the money from the safe, and fled. A private security guard from a nearby bar attempted to chase them, but they shot him dead on the spot and took his gun,” Kayongo recounted.
Michael Ssendawala, the area chairman, was among the residents who responded to the incident, urged security authorities to do everything possible to arrest the attackers.
Ssendawula added that they alerted the Kira Division Police Commander, who responded promptly with his team, but the robbers had already escaped
“The police responded quickly, but the thugs had already fled. They took the body of the security guard, who hasn’t been identified yet, but we hope security agencies will do everything to track down and apprehend these thugs,” Ssendawula said.
The robbery in Namugongo comes barely a day after a robber was shot dead during an attack on a mobile money shop in Kitintale-URN. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
