Supreme Court Overturns, Reimposes 30year Sentence Of Three Men Accused Of Murder

Three siblings are in the cells at Kagadi Central Police Station, accused of hacking their father to death following a land dispute. The suspects are Adolf Katusabe (27), Joseph Kyaligonza (27), and Vincent Kyomuhendo, all residents of Bugambe B Village, Kayanja Parish, Mairirwe Sub-county.

They are accused of killing their father, Patrick Kaija (67), a resident of the same area. The incident reportedly occurred on May 4, 2026. According to available information gathered by Uganda Radio Network (URN), the suspects allegedly raided their father’s home at around 9 p.m. and attacked him using machetes.

He is said to have died on the spot after sustaining multiple injuries to the head, face, neck, and back. Reports indicate that the trio was angered by their father’s refusal to allow them to sell part of the family land, a dispute that allegedly escalated into the fatal attack. A resident, John Wandera, said neighbours heard the victim screaming for help and rushed to the scene, only to find him lying in a pool of blood, already dead.

The Albertine Region Police spokesperson, Julius Hakiza, confirmed the incident, saying the suspects fled after the attack but were later arrested following a police manhunt. He said they are currently detained at Kagadi Central Police Station on murder charges. Hakiza added that the case file has been submitted to the Resident State Attorney for review and legal guidance, after which the suspects will be arraigned in court.Police say investigations into the matter are ongoing-URN.
