Police in Arua City are investigating the circumstances under which thieves broke into Arua City Baptist Church and stole items worth four million shillings.
The stolen items, mainly musical instruments used for worship, include a keyboard, a mixer, four microphones, several cables, and five plastic chairs.
At the scene, it was observed that the thieves gained entry by opening a section of the church structure, which is constructed with iron sheets, allowing them to access and remove the items before escaping.
The incident has left church members helpless, appealing for support to recover the stolen property.
The Deacon of Arua City Baptist Church, Okello Fred, described the loss as a major setback, especially after the church had worked hard to acquire the instruments to improve worship services. With tears in his eyes, Okello expressed the difficulty of replacing the items.
Arua City Baptist Church is located in Abira Cell, Awindiri Ward. Residents noted that this is the second incident of its kind in the area. A similar theft was reported earlier at a Sudanese church in the same neighbourhood.
Another member of the church, Ayikoru Florence, also expressed her disappointment.
Since its establishment in 2022, the church has not had a security guard, which residents and church leaders believe is a loophole that led to the break-in.
