Strengthening Digital Trust Through Cybersecurity Awareness

Dear Colleagues and Members of the Public,

In this digital age, our lives and work depend on technology more than ever before. As the National Broadcaster, Uganda Broadcasting Corporation (UBC) holds a vital role, not only in delivering accurate and timely information but also in safeguarding the digital trust that binds us with the public.

Cybersecurity is everyone’s responsibility. Every message we send, every file we share, and every click we make has an impact on our organization’s security posture. A single careless action such as opening a suspicious email or sharing an unverified link can compromise systems that serve millions of Ugandans.

At UBC and Uganda at large, we are continuously strengthening our digital defences, but technology alone is not enough. The greatest defence is an informed and vigilant workforce and public. I therefore call upon all employees and citizens to cultivate a culture of cybersecurity awareness by observing some of the following:

Think before you click – Do not open attachments or links from unknown or unexpected sources.
Use strong, unique passwords – Combine upper and lower-case letters, numbers, and symbols, and avoid reusing passwords across platforms.
Keep systems updated – Regularly install software and security updates on your devices.
Report suspicious activity immediately – Within UBC, forward suspicious emails to the IT Department. Members of the public can report cyber incidents through the National Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-UG) at www.cert.ug.
Be mindful on social media – Verify information before sharing, and avoid spreading fake or inflammatory content.
Protect your data – Back up important files and avoid storing sensitive data on unsecured devices or public computers.

Remember, cybersecurity is not an IT problem; it is a people problem that demands awareness, discipline, and teamwork. Together, we can make Uganda’s digital space safer and more resilient.
