St. Francis Catholic Church in Alukucok Sub-Zone, Toroma Parish, Soroti Diocese, requires approximately 10 million shillings to complete construction work that began seven years ago. James Michael Inangolet Opus, the church chairperson, made this appeal while receiving a donation of 50 bags of cement from Ngariam County hopeful Daniel Mulalu.
He noted that over 20 million Shillings had already been invested in the project, but an additional Shillings 10million is needed to complete slabbing (floor casting), plastering, and fixing doors and windows.
Inangolet expressed gratitude for the timely support from the Kazi ni Kazi Foundation, saying it came when they were actively seeking funds to complete the church. He added that they aim to finish the construction by 2026, with final touches such as seat repairs and painting.
Patrick Odeke Adongu, the church catechist, emphasized the challenges faced by over 1,000 Christians due to the incomplete floor, which causes excessive dust during services. He called on stakeholders to help bridge the gap in completing the floor and plastering the walls, highlighting the health and comfort benefits of the support.
Meanwhile, Daniel Mulalu, the Private Secretary in charge of Political Mobilization and Affairs in the Office of the President, has extended similar support to eight other denominations and plans to assist a total of 92 worship centers in Ngariam County. So far, he has contributed 13.3 million shillings toward purchasing cement for church projects.
Churches that have benefited so far include St. Francis Catholic Church, Alukucok; Church of God, Omodingo, Alukucok; Akoboi Parishes, Akoboi Sub-County; Osudan Catholic Church, Katakwi Sub-County; Osudan Church of Uganda, Katakwi Sub-County; Light Resurrection, Katakwi Town Council; Lifeline International, Katakwi Town Council; and Christ Disciple Church, Katakwi Town Council. Each of these churches has received 50 bags of cement.
Some Christians who witnessed the cement delivery, including Alfred Odongo, Filbert Oese, Moses Okitoi, and Ojakal, praised Mulalu’s generosity, calling him a true leader. Mary Conze Angida, the Parish Councilor in Alukucok and Chairperson of the Christian-Based Community, along with Esther Nekesa, a Village Health Team (VHT) member, commended the Kazi ni Kazi Foundation.
They noted that the support benefits not only the worship area but also public health by reducing dust that can contribute to respiratory infections. Mulalu reaffirmed his commitment to supporting places of worship in the county, stating that the foundation aims to uplift all churches and respond to their needs. In addition to cement donations, the foundation also plans to provide iron sheets for roofing-URN. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
