As official campaigns for National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag bearers commence nationwide today, July 1, 2025, Soroti Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Paul Eseru has issued a stern warning to politicians against transporting non-residents to intimidate voters or cast votes unlawfully.
The NRM’s 2025-2026 political and electoral roadmap sets the campaign period for MPs, Local Councilors (LCV), Councilors, Lord Councilors, Municipal Mayors, and Division Mayors from July 1 to July 14, ahead of the July 16 elections. The security committee in Soroti, led by RDC Eseru, has received intelligence reports indicating potential threats during the campaign period. He cautioned all residents against engaging in electoral offenses.
“I am telling you, if anyone is caught involved in voter bribery, tribalism, hate speech, intimidation, importing non-residents to vote, defacing campaign materials, inciting violence, impersonation, or any other acts that violate Uganda’s electoral laws, they will face the full force of the law,” said Eseru.
He confirmed that the NRM Electoral Commission, security agencies, and relevant stakeholders are closely monitoring the electoral process in Soroti. To strengthen oversight, Eseru revealed that his office has directed the opening of a general inquiries file (GIF) at Soroti Central Police Station-Katine to address reports of electoral offenses.
Any individual found guilty of electoral malpractice will be investigated and prosecuted. Eseru urged political actors, supporters, and the public to uphold peace, respect the rule of law, and ensure a free and fair electoral process in the district. He stressed the importance of collective responsibility in protecting the integrity of Uganda’s democracy.
During the recently concluded NRM party structures elections, Vice President Jessica Alupo, who also serves as Katakwi District Woman MP, called for unity and peaceful campaigns and elections-URN. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
